There are few places on Earth where humans have not walked. Yet deep in the Selinda Reserve there are such places. Here there are vast areas of woodland, places that are for lions and elephants only, or herds of buffalo that are never exposed to human pressures. This is a place where wildlife can breathe freely, unmolested and unrestrained.

The Selinda Reserve is an unfenced, wild, 320,000 acre private wildlife sanctuary straddling the Selinda Spillway with the best of both the Okavango and Kwando/Linyanti systems. Selinda's vast floodplains and ancient forests offer an authentic and timeless African experience. But what makes this reserve so special is its exclusivity. Within this massive wilderness, we only have a total of 18 guest tents in three small camps on the entire reserve.

The Reserve is centred on the famous Selinda Spillway, which weaves its way east, linking the far reaches of the Okavango Delta in the south with the Linyanti systems in the east. Selinda Reserve is west (upstream) from Savute Channel and Chobe, so it has all the advantages of both of those famous areas but with the tremendous advantage of exclusivity. It is a truly spectacular and unique landscape.

On safari it is possible to see a tremendous diversity of species, from resident prides of lion to huge herds of elephant to packs of wild dog. And then there are the ungulates, from the rare roan to the ubiquitous zebra. Nocturnal wildlife is prolific as well, and there are frequent sightings of aardwolf and civet. Exploration of this vast area defies imaginati... by foot, 4x4, and canoe or quietly sitting in a hide, the sights and sounds of Botswana will come alive. It is an experience sure to expand the knowledge of even the most well traveled.

GENERAL PHILOSOPHY
The Selinda Reserve is leased from the local community by a small group of good friends who believe passionately in making the Earth better. The partnership is less about laying claim to a vast tract of precious land, than it is stewardship, sustainability and conservation. When we took over just a few years ago, 80% of the Selinda Reserve was utilized for trophy hunting. On the first day of our lease, in February 2006, we halted all hunting. Since then, the wildlife has rebounded both in density and disposition. Elephants, which were once edgy, now sense safety and calmly drink as we pass. Prides of lion, once destroyed by the loss of dominant males and reproductive females, are reconvening and establishing territories. In general, the whole area seems to now breathe a deep sigh of relief.

Every decision is based on responsible stewardship. We consider every decision based on its enhancement of the environment, as role models in our society for sustainability, conservation and community culture.

It is our goal, under this partnership, to develop a model of taking stressed environments, surrounding them with compassionate protection and intelligent management, and creating a win-win outcome for wildlife, communities and the planet.
